Apologies for the double-post, but more from that article:

Mr Cameron warned of the consequences of a hung parliament - seen as more likely if there is a big rise in Lib Dem support - as he addressed people in Gloucester.

"A hung parliament would be a bunch of politicians haggling, not deciding.

"They would be fighting for their own interests, not fighting for your interests. They would not be making long-term decisions for the country's future, they would be making short-term decisions for their own future.

Erm....Motorway Man has decided that you just gave an accurate description of Parliament, no matter who is in power.
As the skies stay empty, Motorway Man found figures that suggest we're saving about 200,000 tons of CO2 emissions each day this continues. The government might find their reduction figures easier to hit than they expected.

David Cameron has warned of the dangers of a hung parliament and said only a "decisive" Conservative government would "get the job done". Well, thank goodness he's warned us. How pathetic. Motorway Man has decided: Labour and the Tories can see what some real competition feels like.

Motorway Man is pleased to see that everyone is learning to accept his decisions. Well done Nick - though don't think I have chosen a winner yet. There are two more debates to go.

Since politics is falling into line somewhat for the moment, Motorway Man has taken a slight break with today's decision. Motorway Man has decided: we're done with volcanoes for now.

Summary

Apr. 15th, 2010 10:48 pm
Motorway Man has watched the first ever UK televised party leaders election debate, and is proud to have witnessed history in the making. Firstly this debate happened, but secondly that the Twitter stream on #LeadersDebate was possibly the most engagement an electronic constituency has ever shown here in the UK.

So how did it go? Firstly all three leaders showed fairly good stage presence and sportsmanship. Yes, they talked over each other somewhat, but not enough to make me wince; actually it was about enough to make me believe they felt they were doing something important. They also all more-or-less stayed on topic for each question; something I wasn't necessarily expecting. Yes, we heard their tag-lines and manifesto catch-phrases jump out when the opportunities came up, but not often more than twice or so.

Individually:

Motorway Man thinks David Cameron was a bit flanked, really; he copped it from both sides more than once. He also chanced it mentioning his poor son the first time. The second time was far too often. I also became a little bored hearing about National Insurance - it's a non-story, David! But his closing speech stayed the closest to summing up his points and his party with trying to play down the other two. It was amusing how many relevant people he had recently met and talked to, however...

Motorway Man thinks Gordon Brown probably had the most dignity, but that rather fits his recent position for the country. He took a hammering quite often when it was hard to say "I will" but couldn't answer "Why didn't you yet?" He was the least animated, however; sometimes I felt that he was summing up an outgoing government rather than promoting a new one.

Motorway Man thinks Nick Clegg stole the show. Most energy, most honesty, and wasn't afraid to hit it into the other two; but not as often as he might have. His closing speech was one of the weaker ones; but he made up for that by knowing where he was in relation to the other two parties at all times. It was also funny to see him not react to the other two parties trying to "steal" him at one time or another. He also managed to achieve a Consensus answer on the final question that the other two fell in with - a brilliant strategic ending move and possibly very appropriate for how the future UK parliament might become. I think we know where he is MP of, however...
We also massively loved his casual, hands-in-pockets pose. Looked good!

The Moderator deserves a mention - I think he kept order pretty well, and wasn't afraid to talk the leaders down. Indeed Nick looked like a rebuked schoolchild at one point.

And in the end...

Motorway Man has decided: Nick Clegg performed best in the first ever UK Election TV debate. Let's see what happens next.

Debating

Apr. 14th, 2010 11:39 pm
It's the first ever UK election debates tomorrow at 8:30pm! Motorway Man has decided: he'll be tweeting alongside them, deciding how they do. Keep up with my decisions on Twitter:

Motorway Man
And now the Liberal Democrat manifesto is done. Some controversial ideas in here. Are they talking like a party that does or doesn't expect to gain some power?

Motorway Man has decided: if the Lib Dems were a woman, they'd be well-rounded.

DIY

Apr. 13th, 2010 09:55 pm
Motorway Man notices that the new Tory manifesto wants to let the people start making the decisions. Apparently they've been paying attention to my approach. But they're getting it wrong - you can't have everyone making decisions. That's just for Motorway Man!

Motorway Man has decided: they're stealing my policies!

Motorway of the day: M77
The Labour manifesto is out, and there are actually some good ideas in there. Motorway Man has decided: some of these ideas would have been nice whilst you were actually in power.

Motorway of the day: M11
A Conservative spokesman confirmed that Mr Osborne had told [a gay rights campaigner]: "David Cameron and I are very happy to consider the case for gay marriage." Motorway Man is surprised this isn't bigger news.

So the Tories won't raise NI, and Labour won't raise Income Tax. Motorway Man has decided: to merge their tax policies.

Redrawn

Apr. 9th, 2010 11:43 pm
Motorway Man has is upset, because he has only just discovered that he's been "redrawn"! I can't even vote for the candidate I really like who won last time - he's in the next constituency over.

Motorway Man has just realised he has to carefully consider his actual vote, as well as decide the fate of the whole country. Hmm.

Motorway Man has decided: the goal-posts are moving faster than I do.

Motorway of the day: M42.
Motorway Man notes his choice yesterday was right on the money. I'm reassured to have an early "choosing" success.

Government however have had a choices fail - Digital Rights Bill passing with about ten MPs being present in the debate? It's for Motorway Man to make snap judgments and change the future of the country - MPs are meant to pay attention and think carefully! You chose too fast and were rushed into this, government. In light of this, Motorway Man has decided: to hurry up and finish his downloads.

Motorway of the day: M27.
Motorway Man is confused about the National Insurance increase. How would not having the increase threaten the police force? I thought I paid for the police force with my Council Tax.

Motorway Man has decided: it is all arse.

Motorway of the day: M23.
"It sits between the M3 and the M20 - so does exactly what it says on the tin."

Having accepted my awesome responsibilities of deciding this year's general election results, I feel a little overcome by the pressure. So my first decision of this campaign is:

Motorwayman has decided to go to bed.
